Alfred Rauch, Jr.

Alfred Rauch, Jr.

Alfred "Ted" Rauch is a Bates Consulting Expert. After obtaining a BA from Cornell University and an MBA from Wharton, Mr. Rauch began his securities career in 1965 in New York in the Investment Banking Division of Paine, Webber. There, he was on teams that brought McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts public, and he was also instrumental in the completion of numerous M&A deals.

In 1969, he returned to his native Philadelphia, joining White, Weld in their Institutional Equity Department, where he had coverage of many of the largest accounts including Delaware Management, Miller Anderson & Sherrerd, T. Rowe Price, Mellon Bank, and The DuPont Pension Fund. In 1972, he became resident manager of the Philadelphia office with responsibility for all sales & trading personnel.

Thereafter he became manager of the regional offices in Pittsburgh, Wilmington, and Washington D.C.
In 1978, when White, Weld merged with Merrill Lynch, Mr. Rauch, and many of his former White, Weld associates opened an office for Wertheim, where he was a Managing Director in charge of all areas (including institutional equity and retail sales, taxable fixed income, and municipals) and was the investment banking liaison for the Mid-Atlantic Region. In 1987, he moved to London as President of Schroder Securities Ltd (an affiliate of Wertheim), overseeing all sales, research and trading in the U.K. and Europe. In his position there, he was a member of the Schroder Group Board of Directors.

After returning stateside in 1992, Mr. Rauch joined the DLJ office in Philadelphia where he developed a large ultra-high-net-worth retail and institutional equity practice.

In 1998, he returned to management with PMG Capital as a Principal & Managing Director in charge of all research, sales, and trading. Under his leadership, satellite offices were opened in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. Revenues tripled, and in 2001, PMG was acquired by Investec plc, the South African holding company.

He then joined Advest in Philadelphia as a Senior V.P. overseeing the Institutional Equity Sales effort in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2006, Merrill Lynch acquired Advest, and for the past 9 years Mr. Rauch has had a large ultra-high-net-worth and smaller institutional sales practice. After a long and varied career in the securities industry, he retired in the Spring of 2016.
