John E. Cochran III

John Cochran is a Bates Testifying Expert based in Troy, Alabama. He uses his broad experience across industries to provide expert testimony and consult in matters ranging from Commercial Banking & Securities to Life Insurance and Structured Settlements. Mr. Cochran is co-founder and president of Structured Funding Group, a regional structured settlement firm. Since 1989, he has been marketing the firm’s services, analyzing case values, preparing settlement proposals and attending mediations. In addition to these day-to-day responsibilities, Mr. Cochran is also active as an expert witness in the area of structured settlements and annuities, Mr. Cochran has appeared as such in structured settlement matters in numerous state and federal courts at hearings to approve settlements for minors and/or incompetent claimants.

Prior to entering the structured settlement business, Mr. Cochran was in the Life, Health, Employee Benefits and Investment business for individuals, partnerships and corporations. Duties included comprehensive review of various benefit and retirement plans as well as implementation of new designs. Mr. Cochran’s securities licenses included Series 6, 7, 24 and 63 in addition to various life and health licenses.

After receiving his MBA from Texas Tech University in 1974, Mr. Cochran worked in the banking industry for almost 10 years. Duties included financial analysis, loan review and being a commercial loan officer while at Bank of the Southwest in Houston, Texas. Mr. Cochran managed an equipment leasing company for Bank of America in Dallas, Texas from 1980 to 1982. He was responsible for a four-state area with a primary focus on leasing heavy equipment and corporate aircraft. In late 1982, Mr. Cochran was hired to assist in the opening of a bank in Albuquerque where he was also a commercial loan officer.
