Kathleen Dedenbach

Kathleen "Kate" Dedenbach is a Bates Consulting Expert in Privacy and Cybersecurity. Kate uses her experience in global privacy compliance in retail financial services to serve financial services clients and their counsel. Kate advises on the privacy aspects of technology, privacy incident investigations, data breaches, statutory and regulatory notification, U.S. and international privacy law compliance, privacy vendor risk analysis, and artificial intelligence for regulated entities.

Prior to joining Bates Group Kate was the Global Chief Privacy Officer for Ameriprise Financial for 10 years where she was responsible for all aspects of Ameriprise’s U.S. and international privacy compliance, including data loss prevention tools, incident investigation and breach notification, privacy notices and policies, Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs), International Data Transfers and the privacy risks associated with technology tools and products.

Prior to her role as the Global Chief Privacy Officer at Ameriprise, Kate provided advice on broker recruiting and defection. Kate has significant expertise in assisting advisors with moving firms. Kate provided guidance to advisors joining and leaving firms and has expertise on the Protocol for Broker recruiting, including GLBA and Reg S-P issues.
Early in her career Kate served as Assistant General Counsel at H&R Block Financial Advisors where she advised on employment issues, defended employment claims brought in FINRA arbitration, and supported Compliance with registered persons U4 and U5 filings. Kate also defended customer arbitration claims in FINRA arbitration.
