Which Regulator Issues the Most AML Enforcement Actions?

Which Regulator Issues the Most AML Enforcement Actions?

RegTelligence® Knows- Do you?

It seems like every week there is a new, record-breaking Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) violation penalty issued by one regulator or another. RegTelligence®-your comprehensive source for regulatory intelligence - goes beyond the headlines and provides analytics on all AML-related enforcement actions involving financial services firms.

What are the different types of AML violations?

RegTelligence® found six main categories of AML violations including failing to establish a program, deficient policies and procedures, all the way up to actually engaging in money laundering activity. Financial services firms were most often cited for failing to have adequate policies and procedures. Perhaps surprisingly, the second most common AML violation type was failing to establish an AML program at all.

Which Regulators Issue the most AML Enforcement Actions?

RegTelligence® found that SROs (such as FINRA) accounted for 69% of the AML sanctions against the financial services industry. With 9% of AML enforcement cases, federal regulators (excluding the SEC) outpaced state regulators (9%), foreign regulators (5%), and the SEC (2%).

Contact RegTelligence® today to learn more about AML enforcement actions, including regulator comparisons by AML violation type and fine amount.
